Week 10: Forced Connection 2

Hello!

This is the final week of lesson before the assessment starts! Forced connections are based on the brain’s ability to link two disparate items -such as words, objects , feelings, and ideas- and then use the new language generated by the linkages to think through the problem. It is called Forced Connections because it relies on random external triggers that force people to make a connection between the problem at hand and the trigger. These triggers cause people to broaden their perspective. So initially these connections don't make any sense? Unless we use our brain to think out of the box! We play quite an important role in this situation hehe.

This is magnetic poetry and you can play around with it. This is what i did at home since i didn't attend class on that day. Oops. But its the efforts that count ;)

This is a fun exercise! Even though the sentences didn't make any sense, at least you get what i was trying to tell you. So this shows that it doesn't have to be extremely perfect for people to understand. You just need to know how to connect it properly and make it meaningful even though they are all so different. That is forced connection!

Week 9: Forced Connection

Hello!

In this week's lesson, we learned about how we could make many kinds of expression by using one object. We got a list of objects to choose from such as plugs, candle, clocks and many more. I chose clock! Here are my drawings!

We were given 45 minutes to draw but i only managed to draw only 4 out of the 6 expressions. I couldn't really think of how to draw in those expressions.

So the sad clock, i drew it a broken one and its crying in pain.

The brave clock, i drew a clock that has a superhero look because all superheroes are brave!

The creative clock, i drew a curl clock and not a circle clock and its in roman numbers.

For the greedy clock, it has many numbers or clocks in one clocks. Ana-clock and digital clock.

After the 45 minutes, we were told to put our drawings in front and judge our classmates' drawings and guess what?! Their drawings looked awesome, creative and not what i expected them to be! Then, we gave a mark to the drawings that we find very interesting. It was such a fun and interesting lesson. I have also learnt that we could expand our imaginations wider even by a simple object and it could not only be one object it could be two. Like a + b.

Week 8: Analogical Thinking 2

Hello!

I think i didnt turn up for this lesson for some reason. But i was told from a friend that we should blog about objects that show any expression! These are my research and i will explain them one by one. So, enjoy! 

This chair looks like a happy chair and adorable too because it is small and cute.

This sofa looks so cozy and fat.  Just look at the expression, it seems like it wants someone to sit on him. Hehe.

This chair looks like an evil chair. It seems like it might do something bad on someone who will sit on it.

This chair looks creepy! With that sort of colour and the uneven eyes! 

This chair looks sad or maybe that is just his mustache! Haha!

This building looks like a happy clown! It has a round nose and a smiley face.

He seems like he's cold from the weather. His nose must be tired from blowing out.

This house looks surprised or terrified! it might have seen something shocking. 

This is the cutest thing i have ever seen! Well not literally cute but like it looks so secretive or very pedophile hahaha. 

This house looks happy! and probably has a bright personality due to the colour, yellow.

Week 7: Analogical Thinking

Hello!

For this lesson, we are supposed to find objects that were inspired by nature. We were told to walk around school and take pictures that are relevant to that day’s lesson. So here are the pictures that were taken!

Well as you can see, it’s pretty cool huh? It’s not a lot but….yeah. 

There are some things that are man made which were inspired by nature but we just don't notice it. But apparently, it is very easy for some of us to be inspired by nature because nature is beautiful and it is easy. Here are some research that i have made.

The inspiration for this design derived from two animals. The first is from the plumage of an owl. The plumage of owls has evolved to reduce air resistance and noise, which played an important factor during design of the train. The reason is because the feathers of the owl are known as 'saw toothed wave feathers' designed to generate small vortexes in the airflow that then further breaks up larger vortexes which thus reducing noise. Secondly, the front sharp nose cone design of the rain was inspired by the kingfisher's aerodynamic beak.

Week 6: Lateral Thinking

Hello!

For week 6, we did a mindmap again! But this time, we used our iPad instead of pen and paper. We were told to be in a group of 2 or 3. I joined Syuhada and Shafiqah. The topic given was “Chicken Problem”. I think it’s about how or what can we think or do to prevent the chicken to not come to our boundaries without disturbing our neighbours. We had a lot of crazy or violent ideas. But I’ll definitely not do anything like that to the chickens if they ever come to my house! Ha ha! The others also had ridiculous and funny ideas which are crazy! From this, i've learned that different people have different opinions and that we should respect them no matter how weird they are.

Part II

For this work, its a group work. The teacher gave us lots of funny yet lame riddles or questions for us to use our brain to think and then answer those questions. Some of the questions we cant even figure it out. When she told us what the answers were, i was speechless! But after all it made sense. It was a fun activity to do actually because i had a good laugh while doing it!

Week 5: Broken The Rules 2

Hello!

Before we break the rules, it is important to know them first. I agree that everything has rules. I like this phrase where it says, “Rules are meant to be broken” because I think its true. If we obediently follow all rules, i think we are living such a boring life. But it all depends on what kind of rules that has been set. So I’m going to tell you about this particular artist that has broken the rules. Since I’m majoring in graphic communication, it is going to be a relevant topic!

This is David Carson. He’s the most important designer of the 90s. He has not only broken the rules but he also has taken the rulebook, jumped on it, tore out the pages and then set it alight. He was the art director for the magazine Ray Gun, which was first published in 1992 in California. Through this, he created new boundaries in magazine publishing. How did he break the rules? He abandoned the usual conventions of the grid system and ignored the acceptable usage of columns, headlines and even page numbers. It resulted into a unique style, which was chaotic and abstract in the extreme, often unreadable, but visually exciting!

Week 4: Mindmap 2

Good morning everyone!

In this week's lesson, we were in groups again. But this time, we're in a new group and my group consisted of Hasle and Cheryl. We chose 'The Pursuit Of Happiness'. We were fast enough to pick this topic and at first because we thought it was going to be easy but nope! Eventually we managed to think some of the ideas. First, we started off with the 5Ws and 1H. We were quite confused at first but we did it. We were told to branch the map out and we managed to do a few. After we have completed with everything, we are quite happy and satisfied with our work.

Mind maps are very helpful when it comes to planning. It helps you to organize or sort things out. So you know what you’re supposed to do from top to bottom. Even though it is time consuming, it is better than nothing! You won’t forget what you are going to do next. Since technology has been better and easier, we have the Internet mindmap. So if you don’t have a pen and a paper, you could download any mind map application online. It is very convenient!
